Skype Dialog Killer

Monday, March 17th, 2008

So, I’m a regular VOIP user now. I’ve been using Skype for over a year now to make PC to phone calls and I’ve been very impressed. Over the last few months I’ve been using it much more heavily and I just purchased a Skype In number to receive calls from regular phones. However, it isn’t always convenient to use a headset attached to my PC to make and receive calls. I decided to try one of these cheap little USB to phone adapters.

Don’t Eat This Book

Last week, my wife and I had the rare opportunity to go out on a “date” (which means do anything without the kids) to get some coffee at the bookstore. I picked up an audio book on clearance and decided to give it a whirl. I just completed a drive from Michigan to Tennessee (more on that later) and it was so good that I listened to the whole thing straight through. So, why not give y’all a review (see, I’m in Tennessee.)

Logitech MX610 (2)

I picked up this Logitech MX 610 mouse a few months ago at buy.com for $30 after rebate. Since I’ve been using it awhile I decided it’s time for a review.

Nokia 770 Internet Tablet Review

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

Last month, I succumbed to temptation and bought another gadget. Lately these Nokia 770 Internet Tablets have been all over the internet at a really good price. I picked one up at Buy.com for $139. It seems these are on clearance off because the 770 has been superseded by the newer N800.

Looking for a Photo a Tagging Application

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

Here are my notes that I took while I was looking for a photo organizer program. What I have here is a bunch of links for programs I tried out and a couple sentences of what I thought about them. There were some very specific features I was looking for, so my dislike for a particular program is in the context of my needs, not necessarily a criticism of the program overall.

Function Lock?!

flockkey.jpg

Ok, this has been something that’s been annoying me for quite some time. Who’s bright idea was it to come up with the Function Lock key? Apparently it was Microsoft. No surprise. If it was just another useless key like SrcLk then I wouldn’t care. But the fact that it totally changes purpose of ALL of the F-Keys and others. It’s really annoying. Here I’ll talk about my experience with a couple F-Lock “enhanced” keyboards and what I did to “fix” them.

Cellink BTG-7000 Bluetooth GPS Review

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

Here’s a nice little Bluetooth GPS that I picked up on a great deal over at Geeks.com. I’ve been keeping an eye out for one for awhile and this came up with the features I wanted at the right price. For $40 I really couldn’t go wrong. Read on for the review.

Audio Distortion of the Dell D/Port Advanced Port Replicator

Wednesday, June 14th, 2006

Regarding my review on my Dell Latitude D620, I got a question from Robert about the performance of the audio output on the port replicator vs the line out on the laptop. He had read that the sound was pretty awful and wanted to know how mine performed. The quick answer is that he’s right… but my engineer in me can’t help quantifying it…

Dell Latitude D620 Review

Thursday, June 8th, 2006

Now that I’ve had the notebook for a few weeks, I’ve had enough time to evaluate and write a review.

I’m always a little skeptical when I personally read reviews like this, when the reviewer is the owner of the product (not just on loan for the review.) Sometimes they are really good because you get the perspective of a “typical” user. On the other hand, the “typical” user doesn’t always have a lot to compare it to. With that in mind, I’ll do my best to write this from the perspective of a very picky geek user, because I’m probably not typical.

Canon Pixma IP3000 Printer Review

Sunday, June 5th, 2005

I recently bought this Canon PIXMA iP3000 Photo Printer from Newegg.com. I was looking for a replacement for my nearly 5 year old Canon BJC-6000. It needed a new black print head again, so I decided it was time to get a new printer. It had served me well.
