Ok, here’s another go at the Vista thing. The 1.7.1 beta works, but you have to explicitly tell it to run as administrator. I also found this other article on the AutoIT website that allows you to add a directive so that the user will be prompted for administrative privileges.

I’ve had some reports that the Decrapifier doesn’t work under Vista, so I’ve rebuilt it with the latest version of AutoIT. This should allow it to run. I don’t actually have Vista yet myself, so I haven’t tested it. If you’ve got Vista and want to see if it works, please check out the download page and let me know how it goes. Thanks.

I’ll warn you up front this is mostly a rant, but if you use AT&T calling cards, you’ll want to pay attention. Back in 2005 I couldn’t believe that the FCC would approve the merger of AT&T and SBC, but they did. Then, just recently, they approved the merger of AT&T and Bell South. Uh, is it just me or does anyone remember the reason why we had all of the “Baby Bell” companies to begin with? It hasn’t been that long, really. It’s because they were a monopoly and they got away with whatever they wanted!

For a while now, I’ve been having problems using Bittorrent. After starting a large download, sometime during the night my internet connection would drop. I knew it was not a problem with my local machine because my router administration page was reporting it was disconnected from the WAN and I was not able to have it reconnect. It was reporting that it was not able to obtain an IP address from the ISP’s DHCP server.

This Black Friday shopping thing is just totally weird when you step back and take a look at it. I have a really hard time understanding the appeal of standing in line in the cold, hours on end to save a few bucks. However, over the last few years, the phenomenon has become more prominent online as well. While I refuse to fight the crowds and cold, I am much more willing to fight the cyber crowd for a deal.

Last week I picked up this Segate 320GB SATA hard drive for my MythTV box. I had a 120GB PATA drive I was replacing. Since SATA drives are treated as SCSI under linux, I knew it would be a little more involved than just copying the data and rebooting, so here’s what I did.

There are some interesting things out there that people are doing with the new Code Search feature that Google released last week. I couldn’t resist coming up with a couple interesting searches of my own.

Ok, now that it’s Labor Day weekend, it’s officially taken me all summer to get this post done. Better late than never.. here it is!
Over the memorial day weekend, a friend and I took a backpacking trip to the North Country and Manistee River trails near Mesick, Michigan. In this particular area, you can make a 21 loop out of these two trails. At first, this article may seem out of place in a tech-oriented blog, however as you’ll see there’s still a lot of geeky fun to be had with technology whilst in the woods.
