North Country and Manistee River Trail Hike

September 4th, 2006

Ok, now that it’s Labor Day weekend, it’s officially taken me all summer to get this post done. Better late than never.. here it is!

Over the memorial day weekend, a friend and I took a backpacking trip to the North Country and Manistee River trails near Mesick, Michigan. In this particular area, you can make a 21 loop out of these two trails. At first, this article may seem out of place in a tech-oriented blog, however as you’ll see there’s still a lot of geeky fun to be had with technology whilst in the woods.

Backing Up Your Website and Database

August 7th, 2006

If you’re like me and most anyone else, you’re probably not that great at backing up your PC. Which means you’re probably even worse at backing up your data on your website. For once, I’m attempting to be proactive and get the stuff backed up on my hosting provider before something bad happens.

Audio Distortion of the Dell D/Port Advanced Port Replicator

June 14th, 2006

Regarding my review on my Dell Latitude D620, I got a question from Robert about the performance of the audio output on the port replicator vs the line out on the laptop. He had read that the sound was pretty awful and wanted to know how mine performed. The quick answer is that he’s right… but my engineer in me can’t help quantifying it…

Dell Latitude D620 Review

June 8th, 2006

Now that I’ve had the notebook for a few weeks, I’ve had enough time to evaluate and write a review.

I’m always a little skeptical when I personally read reviews like this, when the reviewer is the owner of the product (not just on loan for the review.) Sometimes they are really good because you get the perspective of a “typical” user. On the other hand, the “typical” user doesn’t always have a lot to compare it to.
